Healthy Snacks Will Keep You Pumped Throughout The Day

Healthy Snacks Will Keep You Pumped Throughout The Day

Portable healthy snacks are the latest trend in the snacking industry. Wrapped stringed cheese, Go-Gurt (portable yogurt), individually packaged vegetable portions with low-fat dip and 100-calorie potato chips or cookies are helping us to eat healthy, even when we feel we have no time to do so.

To maintain a healthy weight and reduce our risk for heart disease or cancer, we have to be more mindful of eating a balanced diet packed with nutrients and controlling our calorie count. Luckily, manufacturers are responding to our needs with more products and offerings to help, and blogs are spreading more food snacks tips for packing the best lunch possible.

Do you rarely have time for a pleasant sit-down breakfast? Luckily, there are a number of morning-friendly, healthy food snacks to wake up your metabolism and provide you with the nutrients you need to get a fresh start. For a quick solution, try half a peanut butter sandwich on whole-wheat bread, low-sugar whole-grain granola bars (with at least 3 grams of fiber), 4-6 ounces of low-fat yogurt, some high-fiber cereal with dried fruit or a bowl of instant oatmeal with sliced peaches, if you’ve got five minutes.

Throughout the day, nothing kills our motivation like a heavy 30-minute lunch. Instead, healthy snacks can keep us pumped throughout the day. Dietician-recommended options include a handful of unsalted or lightly salted dry-roasted nuts, a single serving pack of unsweetened applesauce with a few dry-roasted walnuts, a small apple with two tablespoons of peanut butter or one ounce of low-fat cheese, half a string cheese with a few pieces of fruit or whole grain crackers or pretzels with low-fat cheese.

Raw foods, like vegetables, can be jazzed up with nacho cheese, low-fat ranch or no-fat veggie dip. Lunch snacks manufacturers have been making portable individual packets of carrots, celery, apple slices, nuts, low-fat cheese and other goodies to promote eating healthy. “Look for snacks that contain protein with healthy carbohydrates and fats, and eat your snacks slowly so they fill you up,” advises Baylor nutrition Professor Suzy Weems, PhD. There are many healthy snacks to choose from, so it can be easy to lose track of how our diets are stacking up throughout the day.

A free community website, “Sparks People”, allows users to enter the food they’ve eaten during the day into a database, which tallies up protein, calories, fat and other statistics to help keep track of weight loss goals.

Bengali Cuisine and Bengali Restaurants in Delhi

Bengali Cuisine and Bengali Restaurants in Delhi

Bengal – the land of literature, cinema, art, culture and great food. Bengali cuisine is considered to be one of the richest cuisines of the Indian subcontinent. The cuisine has inherited a large number of influences from both foreign and pan-Indian cuisines since it served as a strong trade link with many parts of the country. Bengal has been ruled by many Turkish rulers in the early thirteenth century and had also been governed by the British Raj for two centuries. Therefore, there are strong influences to be found from both these eras. But even after being ruled by the Mughals and having being served once as the capital of British-colonized India, Bengali cuisine is the only Indian cuisine that still holds its authenticity over 1000 years. But is another interesting fact about the Bengali cuisine is that it is the only Indian cuisine that has a traditionally developed multi-course tradition, that is food served course-wise rather than all at once, that is very similar to the modern service a la russe style of French cuisine.

Fish, lentils and vegetables that are served along with rice, which is the staple food of the cuisine, dominates the Bengali cuisine. Fish cooking is one of the most prominent parts of the Bengali culture and even the Brahmin Bengalis eat fish considering it as the fruit of the ocean. The abundance of water makes the supply of different varieties of fresh water fishes such as catfish, bass, shad or mullet very easy. There are many ways in which Bengalis prepare their fish such as steamed or braised, or stewed with greens or other vegetables and with sauces that are mustard-based or thickened with poppy seeds. Most of the Bengali dishes are cooked with a special mix of five spices, namely mustard, fenugreek seeds, cumin seeds, aniseed and black cumin seeds, which is known as ‘panchphoron’ in Bengali households. There are many Bengali people who have migrated to Delhi after the partition of India or even otherwise in search of better opportunities. But their love for their native cuisine and culture has led to building a strong Bengali community in the heart of the city of Delhi. The posh area of Chitaranjan Park is one of the best examples. In fact, you will find many award winning Bengali restaurants in Delhi.

You can find traditional Bengali dishes such as Bandhakopir Dalna, Aloo Posto, Chola Dal, Labra, Mishti Doi, and many more, at some of Bengali restaurants in Delhi. Some of the best Bengali restaurants in Delhi are Oh! Calcutta, Brown Sahib, Maa Tara Shop, Mother’s Kitchen, Babu Moshai, Ki Hangla, Bijoli Grill, Poribeshon, Annapurna Hotel, Suruchee and Love & Mustard.

Unbeatable Cobb Cooking Tips

Unbeatable Cobb Cooking Tips

If you’ve never heard of Cobb cooking you’re in for a treat! Man has been cooking over fire for thousands of years and over that time many different types of cooking pots and ovens came into being. At the peak of all these millennia of design comes the Cobb oven and grill. Produced by Cobb America it is a small portable cooking stove that takes advantage of modern design technology. The fire of ages past is still there, but in the form of charcoal briquettes, and the ‘cooking pot’ or ‘oven’ is still there in the shape of a very lightweight stainless steel cooking unit. Cobb cooking is here.

The compact size of the Cobb and its light weight, about 8.5 pounds means that it is as happy at home under your cooker hood as it is when camping or boating.

Cobb cooking is a pleasure. I first saw the Cobb cooking on a camping vacation where a neighbour was using one. We got chatting and I was just so impressed with its versatility. I was tempted to find a stockist and buy one then, but instead left it until after the holiday.

My first attempt at Cobb cooking was a family BBQ for 6 people. The Cobb was the centre of attention and the food was amazing. It wasn’t easy to believe just how little charcoal I used either, only 8 briquettes for over 2 hours cooking time. I don’t know how many Cobb’s have sold as a result of that BBQ but I do know of at least three locally. What a piece of kit it is.

One of the most surprising aspects of the Cobb is that it can also be used successfully for slow cooking, simply by reducing the amount of charcoal in the bottom. It will perform very happily with only 2 or 3 briquettes as long as they are properly alight first. You can also use the Cobb for smoking fish and various other meats. I would point out that if you are smoking fish please be aware that the fish should have been previously frozen at -15c for several hours, or, if the fish is freshly caught, make sure that during smoking the fish heats to a point where the meat lifts off the bone. This will destroy any harmful parasites.

The internal temperatures that the Cobb achieves are about 500 degrees Fahrenheit, or 260 degrees centigrade. This is comparable to a domestic oven and makes Cobb cooking a delight.
