Lanzarote – Island of Nature, Food and Music

Lanzarote – Island of Nature, Food and Music

Lanzarote is my all time favourite place. Not only just my favourite holiday destination but my favourite place on earth bar none. The climate is just right and the island has a mystique that surrounds its preserved natural beauty. Its a place that draws me back time after time.

When your flight starts to descend over Lanzarote, the first thing you will notice (usually out of the left hand window of the plane) is the volcanic landscape. The view of crater, after crafter is truly amazing and the colours of the mineral rich landscape set off against the blue of the sky and the sea are a real sight to behold. You will also notice how sparse Lanzarote appears from the air. Its only a small island and yet is not overrun with high rise developments. It really has the mix of tourism and nature spot on.

When the Plane touches down and you make your way out of the airport the landscape may appear quite literally, bone dry. Lanzarote doesn’t get much rain (it is off the coast of the Sahara Desert). The landscape on Lanzarote has been likened to that on the moon and whilst this might not be for everyone it certainly has its hold on me.

There are three main tourist resorts on Lanzarote. Puerto del Carmen (the largest and just minutes from the airport), Playa Blanca and Costa Teguise. Each resort has its own appeal to different age groups but the one thing they all share is great food. When it comes to dining out Lanzarote sets the standards. Go into any restaurant that lines the sea front of the resorts (and they are a few) and you will, more often than not, be presented with a wide selection of outstanding dishes. And the portions don’t come small! The price you pay for eating out in Lanzarote does vary. You can basically pay as little or as much as you want, but the average price usually gets you a really nice meal. A couple can easy have a nice meal for around 50 including starter, main, desert and drinks.

Finally, the music. I don’t know what it is about Lanzarote but the live music on offer tends to be so much better than anywhere else I have been. It really seems to blend in with the island and provides a great nights entertainment. Not only that but the musicians tend to be accessible so it easy to get to know them if you are a regular visitor to the island.

All in all, Lanzarote is the perfect place. The climate, the nature and the tourism all seem to sit together so well. Its not over commercialised and there is a real sense that whilst Tourism is very important to the island that it will not be forced into destroying the identity that has created the island we have come to know and love.

Five Kinds of Healthy Drinks at Dinner Party

Five Kinds of Healthy Drinks at Dinner Party

At the end of the year, different holidays come one after another. After having been busy for a whole year, everyone wants to have a good rest, so there will be a lot of gatherings and dinner parties among friends. At the dinner party, people always drink too much alcohol, which may easily harm the body. Then what kinds of drinks should we choose at the dinner party, so as to protect our health? The following section will recommend five healthy drinks for everyone.

First, yoghurt Yoghurt contains a large number of active lactic acid bacteria, which can regulate the flora balance in the intestinal tract. If you have to drink alcohol at the party, it is best to drink a glass of yogurt first, which can play a good buffering function in the stomach. What’s more, yoghurt has a certain feeling of fullness, so it can make you eat less oil and fatty food after drinking.

Second, fruit juice Fruit juice contains a large number of vitamins, minerals, and a certain amount of biologically active substances and dietary fiber, so it can make up for the lack of nutrition when you drink alcohol. It is best to drink freshly squeezed juice, which has the best nutrition. If the juice has been placed for a long time, it is easy to be oxidized.

Third, tomato juice Tomato juice contains a lot of nutrients, such as vitamin C, minerals, lycopene, and so on. Especially lycopene, it has the most prominent health benefits on human body, and has strong antioxidant activity. What’s more, lycopene has a good effect of clearing away the free radicals in the body, which is far better than that of other carotenoids and vitamin E. As a result, it is also known as “plant gold”.

Fourth, soybean milk Soybean milk contains various kinds of nutrients, including unsaturated fatty acids. It is low in saturated fatty acids and contains no cholesterol. What’s more, soybean milk also contains a small amount of soluble dietary fiber, which can help to promote the peristalsis of the gastrointestinal tract and prevent constipation. Sugar-free or low-sugar soybean milk has much better effect.

Fifth, tea The tea polyphenol and caffeine contained in tea have the effect of preventing cancer, cardiovascular diseases and so on. Green tea, Oolong tea, Pu’er tea, black tea, and scented tea are all good choices. During the winter, it is best not to drink the tea which has become cold, because it is easy to cause diarrhea, which is very bad for the health of the body.

Dentist Suggestions On the Drinks That Cause Decay In Our Teeth

Dentist Suggestions On the Drinks That Cause Decay In Our Teeth

Oral cavities can be a chronic issue every where around the world. Due to the sugary, decay-causing drinks. If you wish to shell out less time with the oral surgeon, the following are 3 drinks which you are required to avoid so that you can protect your teeth.

When it comes to the mouth, sodas are the first enemy. From the Grove Street Dental Care researches surveys it is found that soda’s effect on our teeth will almost equal to that of corrosive battery acid. Imagine a bunch of unhealthy ingredients targeting your tooth enamel – it has phosphorus content, caffeine and sugar as a ingredient which are harmful for our teeth. Some sodas have as much acid in them as in a battery and drinking sodas over a long period of time slowly breaks down the enamel of your teeth.

The phosphoric acid and caffeine in soda is also a culprit for tooth breakdown. Even though phosphorus is a essential substance for the bones, but excessive phosphorus can result in bone loss, and caffeine consumption limits calcium absorption by your teeth. The sugar in sodas attaches to germs and helps it to stick to your enamel that can cause damage to the teeth. Restricting or reducing sodas in your diet is healthy for your overall dental health, but especially good for the bones and the teeth.

Researches have shown different results concerning sports drinks and teeth cavities – the issues are when and how usually you take in these drinks. Continuous consumption of sports drinks can result in softening, yellowing, and break down. The level of acidity and sugar of these drinks can cause the same harm which soda does to your mouth.

White wine includes a high acid content and would wear away at teeth enamel. It has the similar effects as the fruit juice have on the teeth. It has found that despite the fact that red wines are much more apt to leave the teeth stained, they will wear less the teeth. Continuing exposure of the teeth to wines reduces the pH balance of the mouth and provides bacteria a favorable atmosphere in order to grow.

Cooking Preparation by Sanas Foods.

Cooking Preparation by Sanas Foods.

Cooking is something many enjoy doing, some find it a task. Being organized in the kitchen can help greatly in the preparation involved in cooking.

Whether you have a huge gourmet kitchen or a kitchenette, knowing how to keep it organized is a good place to start.

Here are some tips;

1) Keep your utensils in a place located closely to the area in which you will prepare your food. Your cooking utensils would do well in a container or on hooks right at arms length to the stove, so having them handing will keep things running smoothly.

2) Spices, if you are one that adds your spices as you cook, keep them in either a spice caracole or a drawer within immediate reach. Keep them in alphabetical order or in order of type. Make sure the labels are easily seen.

3) That infamous clutter of plastic containers can be frustrating in the kitchen. When searching for a matching lid and bottom you can waist time searching and find you getting frustrated. Go through your containers regularly and make sure you have the matches of tops and bottoms, and make sure they are in an orderly fashion so you can grab them easily.

4) Your pots, pans, and bake ware should be kept together by type in an easy to grab place. Having a pan at the back part of the cupboard can really frustrate a person who is trying to get their cooking tasks done. Keeping your items in an orderly fashion will make it easy to grab what you want.

5) Your dishes, cutlery, and glasses don’t need to be in your cooking area. They can be in an cupboard area that is further from the stove and closer to where you serve from. This keeps the area around you cooking and preparation space open for items such as pots, pans, and spices.

Remember one of the frustrations of cooking is not being organized. Having a well organized kitchen will minimize frustration and free you up for other things,

Cajun or Creole Louisiana Cooking and Lafayette Catering are Delicieux Both Ways

Cajun or Creole Louisiana Cooking and Lafayette Catering are Delicieux Both Ways

Louisiana stands above other states when it comes to sumptuous cuisine. Its mere mention evokes a gastronomic craving for food that’s a little on the spicy side, which has influences from Spanish, Native American, Italian, German, African and Caribbean cookery. A couple of styles, however, stand out among other cuisines so much that they’re reflected in well-known Lafayette catering: Cajun and Creole. The two are easily interchangeable because of their French connection, yet there are ways to tell them apart.

The distinction was set sometime in the 18th century when Cajun and Creole dishes were whipped up often. Creole was associated with big city cooking since many people it fed were urban dwellers. Creole families were also well-to-do, having access to ingredients and seasonings considered expensive and exotic at the time: meat, seafood, sauces, and spices not typically found in Louisiana. Creoles lived right alongside foreign settlers and remained when Louisiana became a melting pot of cultures.

In the countryside, big pots boiled for Cajun cuisine. Ingredients came straight from the gardens and fields, while no part of animals that add texture to meals was wasted. Improvisation made up for the lack of ingredients in Cajun kitchens; bell pepper, onions, celery, garlic, paprika, parsley, green onions, cayenne pepper, and other spices. This resulted in tangy dishes; thus, the spicy flavor Cajun dishes are known for until now.

The contrast in the edible elements used in Louisiana’s more popular cuisines are hardly stark but recognizable in present-day delights. The gumbo or jambalaya, when cooked the proper Creole way, has tomatoes, while the Cajun kind does not. The roux-the ubiquitous thickening agent for sauces famous caterers in Lafayette LA use a few times too many-could also differentiate the two cuisines. Creole roux is made of butter and flour; the Cajun base is oil and flour.

The saying -a Creole feeds one family with three chickens and a Cajun feeds three families with one chicken,- in Louisiana kitchens has some truth to it. This is the case when it comes to preparation and style of cooking. Cajun cookery is straightforward ingredients-wise and not elaborately prepared. This, however, doesn’t diminish the essence of this kind of cooking taste-wise.

Creole cuisine is as delectable as Cajun but entails sophisticated prepping. A peek at a typical Creole menu would show pureed bisques or rich sauces and soups. Chef Ralph

Chef Ralph

Going from a short hall into the kitchen of the Compound, which sits over a cellar from the era when this antiquated building belonged to an apple orchard and not so recently has been converted into a fine dining restaurant, with a chuckle, I’m greeted by the king of the arena Chef Ralph.

Through a squeaky voice he says. “Hey, Sam Do the Watusi.”

The chef resembles a bearded chipmunk wearing a hat that looks like a kernel of corn popped into a puffy cloud.

While the chef is whisking translucent egg whites into peaks of snow, the major-demo walks in wearing a tan three piece suit. He asks the chef. “What”s on today’s menu?”

“A little bit of chicken, a little bit of beef, and a little bit of pork,” the chef answers. He is short and round and wears black and white pants. Then he repeats, “A little bit of chicken, A little bit of beef, and a little pork,” as he folds the fluffed egg white into some melted shimmering chocolate. The smug dining room coordinator walks out mumbling under his breath.

“Maybe, I should have mentioned fish,” said the chef with a chuckle.

As I am chopping parsley into green confetti, the international cuisine master preps tarragon, shallots, dry white wine, and vinegar for a Bearnaise sauce. He heats up the potion in an aluminum pot, which will be added to a creamy egg yolk and butter base.

When the concoction is done brewing, the chef shuffles over to the food processor to where I am popping open oysters with a shucking knife.

Standing next to me he takes a sniff of the mixture and crinkles his pudgy nose. A concerned look crosses his rosy-cheeked face.

“Hey, Sam, smell this. Does it smell right?”

I take a whiff of the steaming contents of the pot. Whoa! The pungent vinegar and tarragon hit my nostrils with a burning sensation, causing my eyes to water like a broken cistern. They could use this for smelling salts. It is amazing that something that smells terrible is made into a sauce which raptures ones palate to life, to compliment a savory roasted tenderloin beef.

Recovering from the rancid nasal assault and clearing away the tears from my eyes, I see a chipmunk wearing a double breasted cook’s jacket and a chef’s hat chuckling.

“Hey, Sam, it smell right?” His eyes crease into crows feet as he breaks into laughter.

Finishing the Creamy Bearnaise sauce he whistles a Kinks’ tune bobbing his head to the beat as he schemes up an antic for his next victim. This is my culinary arts mentor Chef Ralph a thirty-something adolescent prankster,
